Eco Warriors Malaysia

I need to take this quest of mine seriously and of course I need help. There is so much we can do to help the environment. Sometimes you think you know to go about doing things, but let me tell you that the actual fact is we do not know how la.

So I have enrolled myself with Eco Warriors, a group on Facebook for like minded people who want to make a difference in the environment. People just like me....ahhhh finally I am actually one of them....so happy and excited. Wohoooo..... wonder if they would give me a badge!!!

Oh this group was created by Matthias Gelber, the greenest man on earth. So at least know I have someone who I can look to, if I ever need advice.

And then maybe I could be in a running to be the next greenest person on earth. Now that is motivation.

Greeniebaby's simple steps

It is amazing for me to have 2 post in a day. I guess this green issue is getting me really fired up.

I walk down the streets I see garbage, and then there are people who still throw rubbish out of the car. Come on!!! Seriously!!

So this I have a short guide that we could follow, since a recent poll showed that we Malaysians do not know what steps to take to live green.

So here it goes:
1. Shopping with reusable bag
2. Separate our garbage according to cans, plastic and paper
3. Use a biodegradable garbage bag
4. Gardening using reusable plastic containers - that is if anyone is into gardening - but it would be good to have a green patch
5. Read more on environmental articles
6. Update on environmental events
7. Share green tips/advise with friends

Only 48% Malaysians live green

Just came across this today, whilst trying to find ways to improve myself and take the steps to live green.

"According to an online poll conducted by iProperty.com recently, 48 per cent of 277 respondents have taken steps to "live green", 42 per cent are aware of green issues but are unsure of the steps to take, and 10 per cent have not taken any steps to adopt a green lifestyle due to lack of awareness."

Hmmm makes me wonder, what is all this green campaigns that we see happening. Yeah it tells you that we have to live green or the company is making the changes to be a green company. But no one tells you what you should do to live green.

I am taking one step at a time......and it is hard as there is no one that can tell u exactly how.

SOS!! Selangor State Park

The Selangor State Park is about 108,300 hectares in size and is the longest stretch of contiguous forest in Selangor. The Park protects Selangor’s share of the Central Forest Spine – or the Main Range. The Park needs your help to ensure its full conservation!

Why does it need our help? Apparently the government intends to build a KL Outer Ring Road which will cut through the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge which sits in the Selangor State Park.

The Klang Gates Quartz Ridge is a world-class geological monument that is internationally recognized for the size, scale and splendor of its quartz dyke - the longest in the world -and, if not disturbed any more, stands every chance to be declared a World Heritage. And this is within the Selangor State Park which is also the vital resources we need to live - fresh air, clean water and so much more.

Now I have hiked up part of the ridge, and the view is breathtaking and the forest is absolutely beautiful. Haven't we damaged Mother Nature enough? On one side the government is saying that we need to we need to save the environment and our natural resources and on the other hand they want to cut down this park for further development.

Green brands of the world

Hello my green green world. Well I doubt is getting any greener, looked out my apartment these past few days and the haze is back.....oh gosh it is so hard isn't it. It is hard to see what the world is turning into and even harder to start my project of 'living green", slowly but surely I will get there.

Things that got me thinking over the weekend was, if we want to start living green of course we need the help of some green products. Let's face it, we are slaves to loads of product in the market and some we can't live without. So I got on searching and what would ya know they have top 'green brands', but I think it is in the US.

The list includes corporate giants like Clorox - yeah the bleach company and Colgate-Palmolive. It is more like they own brands that are in the top 10 "green" brands. This is according to new global survey of consumer perceptions by WPP - some giant marketing and communications firm.

1. Burt's Bees - hmm I think I have heard of them and they are new in Malaysia. Something like the Body Shop but I think most of their stuff are made of bee's wax. It is owned by Clorox.

2. Whole Foods Market - natural and organic store - another one of those!!! I think we have something similar in Malaysia. But what I can tell you is that most of it are super expensive

3. Tom's of Maine - apparently owned by Colgate Palmolive - another lifestyle brand.

4. Trader Joe's - a grocery store in the USA - none in Malaysia, I checked

5. Google - yup the fav search engine is also green......hmm I wonder how did that happen

6. Aveeno - another lifestyle brand.....not available in Malaysia

7. SC Johnson - nope it has nothing to do with Johnson & Johnson. Sc Johnson does all these cleaning stuff for household. Some of it is available in Malaysia. Good to know and shall check that out

8. Public - this I am not sure, is it us the public or a brand.....I need to do more research on this

9. Microsoft - wow surprise surprise...

10. Ikea - woo hooo they made it too. This is only for those who can afford them

Mother Nature is trying to tell us something.........Listen

I am sure everyone has read about the floods in Singapore yesterday. Was anyone shocked...I know I was!!!??

I mean seriously.....Singapore, nothing ever happens to Singapore....it is too small and I thought they always had everything figured out. I guess no one could figure out the powers that be.

If we take a moment, sit back and look at all the things that has been happening in the world lately, we might just notice that maybe Mother Nature is trying to tell us something.

There are a lot of natural disaster in just under a year compared to maybe 10 years ago. We have earthquakes, tornado, flash floods....etc. It is scary and I think we have to take heed.

A little bit matters, small baby steps from each one of us would be better don't you think. I seriously wish those in power should stand up and pay attention and do something about it.

Hugging Green

These past few days I have been checking on and researching ways to help me make my baby steps in going green.

Gosh! I have to say there's a whole of lot of green talk going around, if only I can say that about our planet. There is definitely no whole lot of forest going around nowadays.

I came across Tree Hugger, after reading it I realised that I might have skipped a couple of steps in trying to be green....no harm done....there is no hard and fast rule.

Ok the main question I need to ask is "Why Go Green" - could be am jumping on the bandwagon like everyone else and after a while get tired of it...........also like everyone else. For me I guess I need a purpose and yes I have also been influenced by activities I have seen and heard. I love green and do love the outdoors. I do not want to loose it because of my selfish ways.

Well I did start taking my food container when I pack foods. Of course it was weird carrying an container and of course all the questions by the shop people............jeez can't you see that I am trying to be green, hmmmmm would it make a difference if I wear green or a signage....
